As a mass manufacturer, bleaching wood is not an option for a production
instrument. Alder gets the nod in this case because it has no obvious color
problems and can be painted in a transparent color if prefered. Those
manufacturers who do use Poplar like Jackson, and Ernie Ball paint the wood
solid colors only.
Anyone who wants to make one or two guitars at a time can easily select which
board appeals to them, and cut around any problems in that board. Not a viable
option for mass manufacturers who buy in units ( 1000 bft. ) at a time. Most of
the wood recieved has large green streaks, and would not be suitable for
anything other than solid colors.

I began collecting data about the microphones used by blue harp players before there was an internet. I began organizing it into JT30.com in the late 1990s. I accumulated more stuff than I remember. This is some of it.
