William Clarke's Microphone on eBay
Last time I looked it was up to around $500. Perhaps that's high, but if you have that much money to spend, what else would you waste it on? When I hit the lotto, I will be bidding on this kind of stuff.
eBay: William Clarke's SHURE Microphone up for sale!! Harp (item 190092898991 end time Mar-24-07 15:04:50 PDT)

There will be a Paul deLay Memorial Concert, Sunday, April 1, 2007, 7 pm - midnight, Kridel Grand Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park).
If you are in the Northwest that weekend, head on over and raise a glass to Paul for me.

Blues Blowout Videos
Here are four more videos from the Mark Hummel Blues Blowout. These are very short, but they give you the flavor of the show.

Some Pictures from The Harmonica Blowout
I took a bunch of pictures and a few video snippets at the March 11, 2007 Harmonica Blowout in Ringwood, NJ. Here a few of the pictures. I will try to get the videos up later this week.

The camera was acting up and kept forgetting that it was a camera so some of the pictures came out funky.

Here is the usual picture of your webmaster annoying the talent. I am saying "take the damn picture".

Harmonica Blowout Video with Linda Geiger
I went to Ringwood NJ this weekend to see Kim Wilson, Charlie Musslewhite, Mark Hummel and Rusty Zinn. Linda Gieger came along with us. I didn't know that she was a blues drumming star! Mark and Charlie called her up on stage to play for the finale and I caught some of it on video.

Google video wasn't working and the clip was too big for Yourtube so I tried Vimeo - I like this site. I will use it for the rest of the video clips that I took.

Paul deLay dies
Paul deLay, the incredibly brilliant harp player, died today of complications from leukemia.

Paul was a wonderful person as well as a harp player. This came as a complete surprise to everyone. I just talked to him a few weeks ago. He will be missed.

Virginia Harmonicafest
Next weekend, March 9 & 10, 2007, is the Virginia Harmonicafest.
The 10th annual Virginia Harmonicafest will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Williamsburg, Virginia on 9 and 10 March 2007.
Hotel reservations may be made by calling 800-962-4743. The special rate for the festival is $72.00.
The address for the hotel is:
351 York St
Williamsburg, Va 23185.
This year's entertainers include Sandy German, Bob Meehan, and Stan Harper and others.
There will be seminars, raffles, door prizes and open mic time.
The price at the door will be $50.00.
For further information contact Tom McCraig at 757-340-7523(H) or 757-486-2001(W).

You can also e-mail him at harpplayer@vabch.com

Send me your pics when you get back and I'll load them up here. I'm sorry about the lateness of the news, but I just heard today. It sounds like a cool mini-spah. If you live around DC, coastal Virginia or Northeast NC, it will be well worth the cost of the gas.

Do you collect microphones or work on mics? Do you attend blues harp events and take pictures? Do you know tips and techniques for playing harp that you'd like to share.
I need bloggers who are willing to post to JT30.com a few times a month on harp related subjects (not spam). Your posts will reach about 10,000 unique readers each month. Let me know if you are interested.
Thanks, Keith

History of this page.

In the dawn of the World Wide Web (1994), Keith Graham created the JT30 page. It started out as a home page for modifying JT30 microphones. Eventually the page became a catchall for microphones and amplified harmonica playing. You can see these pages at: The Original JT30 Page

Now I have three pages for harp mics, harp tab and harp amps. I'm going to start another one just for learning harp.

Microphone Techs! Here is a nice article out of Circuit Cellar Magazine on the D-104, the older brother of the JT-30. It has a great discussion on crystal mics and how they match to modern equipment. There is a project on how to rig up a little op amp matching circuit.

If you haven't been checking out BassHarps Gig list, then you are missing out on great harp playing. If you are gigging and not on the list then you are probably playing to a half empty house.
There is a Jam Session FAQ on the Internet. Some of it is old and is missing some of the best blues Jams, but it may be useful for finding a local jam. Another more recent jam list is at the National Blues Pages.
